OnePlus have launched a new foldable and showed off a concept device

Over the last 48 hours, OnePlus has launched a foldable phone and showed off a concept device. Now, there’s not a huge amount of info about the foldable at this time because it’s been announced for late 2023. Unfortunately, exact dates are yet to be confirmed and pricing isn’t ready either…

What we’ve got so far is a statement from Kinder Liu, President and COO of OnePlus:

Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn’t settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market.

It’s a step forward for OnePlus to be, once again, taking on the biggest players in the mobile market; now looking at becoming a foldable flagship killer. This is largely true too — review coming very soon — of the OnePlus 11. Although, it’s not a phone that we’d recommend you hunt down in Australia until they’re approved for use and provided with Australian power plugs.

It’s promised that the OnePlus foldable phone will be a fast and smooth experience; with powerful hardware and great software. As more details of the OnePlus Foldable emerge, we’ll be keeping on top of the discussion as it’s going to be interesting to see the progress.

OnePlus 11 Concept

The other device OnePlus announced is a concept device with Active CryoFlus to cool the device. It looks cool, and with the theoretical cooling advantages, it’s a great idea. But it’s all theoretical right now: Reduced temp during gaming by up to 2.1°C, improving a game’s frame rate by 3-4 frames. With a reduced temperature of 1.6°C during charging the battery is — in theory — able to be charged 30-45 seconds faster to full.

One of my favourite YouTubers, MKBHD has covered this in a lot of detail as he’s had his hands on the device for a few weeks.

So it’s pretty safe to say that this is currently, and likely to stay, a concept only. But it is nice to see companies like OnePlus pushing the limits for potential future developments.
